Style Descriptions

Ballet
It is most important for any student who is serious about his/her dancing to take ballet lessons. The Royal Academy of Dance is the most internationally recognized system of ballet training and examination. It is represented in 72 countries around the world. The Pre-Primary to Pre-Professional Children’s program offers ballet training through gradual progressions, demanding no more of a young body than it can easily cope with.  The Royal Academy of Dance offers Syllabus levels and graded studies in Classical Ballet, Free Movement and Character Dance with a series of exercises and enchainements appropriate to each grade level.

Tap Choreography
Tap classes begin at age 5 and are offered at all levels including Professional. All tap classes are based upon the technique and style of Rhythm Tap and Broadway Musicals. This system of tap dancing encourages technical excellence, clarity, shading, syncopation and rhythmic patterning. Dancers who complete their studies through the levels to Pre-Professional class will have the skills necessary to dance professionally in Tap and Musical Theatre Productions.

Tap Technique
This class designed for the serious  Tap student who wishes to upgrade his/her technical skill. It offers an in-depth, intensive study of advanced techniques of Tap. This course is to be taken in conjunction with Tap and is not to be taken instead of the regular program. The focus is on skill development only, therefore, it will not lead to a choreographed number in the recital. All members of the Competitive Teams are required to take this class.

Jazz Choreography
Jazz classes are offered from the age of 5 years. Jazz is a high energy style of dance that encourages dynamic performance as well as excellent technique. Jazz terminology, introduction of new step combinations, and dance variations are challenging but fun as the student is able to progress at a rate consistent with his or her own abilities.

Jazz Technique
This class is a high energy, dynamic course designed for the serious jazz or ballet student who wishes to upgrade his/her technical skill. It offers an in-depth, intensive study of advanced techniques including multiple pirouettes, advanced movements of elevation as well as increased strength and flexibility. This course is to be taken in conjunction with jazz or ballet and is not to be taken instead of the regular program. The focus is on skill development only, therefore, it will not lead to a choreographed number in the recital. All members of the Competitive Teams are required to take this class.

Contemporary
Contemporary dance training is offered to students beginning at the Grade 1 level. It explores all movements of the body and how to create shapes and pictures through dance.

Hip Hop
Hip hop is an energetic hard hitting style of dance. The music has a strong beat that lends itself fast, strong and sharp movements.

Acro
In acro dance students will learn basic acrobatic movements such as walk overs, rolls and hand stands. This is also a great class to improve strength and flexibility.
